Artist Bio

I paint with acrylics on linen or cotton, building my own canvases using stretcher bars from Wraptek. I often use photos for reference, but my work is strictly hand-done by eye. I use no projection methods or other image transfer processes. I paint the old-fashioned way, using glazing techniques to achieve color and visual depth.

Born in Sun Valley, Idaho, I moved to Arizona in 1980. After a good run as a newspaper editor in Wickenburg, I am now a technical writer living in Bisbee, Arizona, and pursuing my art.

I studied fine art and English at Reed College, Vanderbilt University, and the University of Arizona, but my art mostly developed independently of my education. My degrees include a bachelor's in English and a master's in psychology.  I have been a professional artist for nearly all my life with murals and paintings in many private homes and businesses across the country.

Upon the loss of my only child in 2008, I underwent profound personal changes, including putting away the paintbrushes for more than 10 years. During that time, I worked at healing through blogging, donating, organizing mentoring groups, and fostering children. The most meaningful thing I have done since that horrible day is adopt four girls who are now grown and successfully pursuing life.

And so, with time's passage and additional free time, I find my muse returning and the paintbrushes have come out again. And it feels wonderful!
